The Association des économistes québécois is a non for profit professional association established in 1975 to respond to the needs and interests of economists active in a wide range of branches in Quebec: public sector, workers organisation, finance, medias, etc.

Since its foundation, the Association has dealt not only with ongoing training for member economists but also with the dissemination of economic knowledge, the promotion of economic expertise, the representation of the profession and the forging of links with other associations. It is more and more considered as being a credible and impartial voice in economic debates.

The Association has three regional sections (Capitale-Nationale, Montreal and Outaouais) which set up activities responding to the needs or interests of their respective audience: seminars, round tables, after hours, lunches with guest speakers, debates, colloquium, social activities, etc.

In turn, each regional section works in close cooperation with the general management of the Association to organise an Annual Conference. This event of national importance draws a huge participation and it allows attendees to hear prestigious speakers.

The Association des économistes québécois publishes on the present website many of the documents stemming from its activities. In addition, it produces a newsletter (ECO) presenting hot topics as well as information on current regional activities. Its Facebook page and its Twitter account help inform the members and the public on the activities of the Association and on other relevant subjects.

The Association is responsible for the organisation on a yearly basis of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec - Bank of America Merrill Lynch Economic and Financial Journalism Award. The Public Policies Committee of the Association publishes documents on major economic issues and, through a blog (upcoming), it fosters interaction with members and with the public. Furthermore, three times a year the Association releases results of surveys of the opinions of its members on questions that make the news. Job offers for economists are regularly posted on the Carrefour de l’emploi. Finally, the Gilles-Beausoleil Scholarship is awarded each year to graduated students to help them carry research projects in economics.

While its members are mainly Quebecers, the Association is open to economists from outside Québec as well as to professionals from other disciplines interested by economic issues.
